The Dark Wind

This book is written by Tony Hillerman. The setting is in the states of Arizona and Mexico. The story revolves around a Hopi windmill that has been damaged many times. The main character is Jim Chee of the Navajo Tribal Police.

As he is making his rounds in the desert he sees a plane that crashes. The natural thing for him to do is to investigate the accident. This leads him to being the main suspect in a drug related murder. The plane was full of the drug cocaine. The only store in the area is robbed. A man is found dead with his palms and feet skinned. All these clues keep Chee busy in trying to solve the mystery.

His boss wants him to forget his investigation but the clues keep nagging at him. He drives many miles through the desert. He goes from state to state. While the plot of this story may be slow at times it does keep your interest. You will notice the beauty of the land and friendship of the people in the area. As you read you will remember the history of the land.

The story tells and shows you how many American Indians live today. Some of their culture comes out in the story. This is an ago old story told in a different way. Jim Chee keeps the story interesting as he discovers clues. He puts all the pieces together just in time to hold your interest until the end.
