Dance of the Dead

When horror movies first came out, their intention was to scare the living daylights out of us, and so they did for decades. In the 70s movie spoofs came about which allowed the creators of these to combine comedic elements with horror. Is it that we have gotten softer that we now must have horror “light” because we cannot handle the originals?

Dance of the Dead is a continuation along these lines of comedic horror. The viewers will find a delicate balance between the jokes and the story line. Scenes, which without humor will probably make one gag in his seat, are easier to accept due to the comic element.

There are all the usual suspects in this movie, which is a recipe known to succeed. It has a strange mix of people, from the cheerleaders to the nerds and jocks we all know in one form or another. Amazingly, in real life those never mix; however, in this type of movie, you cannot do without them.

What bonds all these characters together is the will to survive. The town is threatened by the result of extra “work” done in the local nuclear power plant. The result of which affects every corpse in the area. The corpses become hungry and murderous and head to the prom, where they can find what they are looking for.

The film has a fast pace to it and events follow one another quickly, which keeps the viewer on edge throughout. There is nothing original in this movie but there is also nothing wrong with having the same good old time once again.
